Growth Oriented Industry Readers

The results are in, and one thing is clear: the TMF community is hungry for self-improvement. Our latest poll reveals a massive leaning toward management and self-help titles, leaving traditional biographies and even technical manuals behind. It seems manufacturing professionals are a group of lifelong learners more interested in “how to lead” than “how they did it”. But is our focus on professional growth leaving enough room for creative escapism?

“When we asked what kind of books you are currently diving into, the results were overwhelmingly skewed toward a single category. A massive 71% of you are reaching for Management and Self-Help titles.”

It’s often said that “leaders are readers”, and our latest TMF Saturday Poll certainly backs that up—though the results reveal a very specific appetite among our community.
When we asked what kind of books you are currently diving into, the results were overwhelmingly skewed toward a single category. A massive 71% of you are reaching for Management and Self-Help titles.

The Drive for Constant Growth
This dominant preference suggests a community that is deeply committed to professional evolution. In an era of rapid digital transformation, it’s clear that TMF professionals aren’t just looking to keep up; they are actively seeking frameworks to lead more effectively and optimize their personal productivity. We are a group that prioritizes “sharpening the saw” over almost everything else.

The Balancing Act
Interestingly, Fiction, Poetry, Technical, and Hobby books all tied for a distant second place at 14% each. While the drive for self-improvement is admirable, it’s worth noting the small slice of the pie dedicated to “escapism” or pure technical mastery. Are we so focused on the “soft skills” of management that we are moving away from the prose and poetry that spark creative lateral thinking?

The “Missing” Biography
Perhaps the most surprising statistic was the 0% for Biographies and Autobiographies. Despite the popularity of titans like Ratan Tata or Elon Musk, it seems our community prefers actionable advice over chronological life stories. We want the “how-to” more than the “how-they-did-it”.
