“Our deep expertise in metal additive manufacturing, built over more than a decade of close collaboration with ISRO, enabled us to realise fit-for-function hardware that performs reliably under extreme pressure and temperature conditions.” Yathiraj Kasal, Business Head and General Manager, Wipro 3D
Wipro 3D, a leading additive manufacturing business of Wipro Infrastructure Engineering, has successfully manufactured critical metal components deployed in the first hot-fire test of a high-thrust LOX-Methane rocket engine being designed and developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for future launch vehicle applications.
The sub-scale thrust chamber assembly, incorporating mission-critical components additively manufactured by Wipro 3D, was subjected to a hot-fire test on 27 January 2026. The test achieved ignition and sustained combustion, with all systems performing as expected, as reported by ISRO.
The components fabricated by Wipro 3D were produced using laser-based Powder Bed Fusion (PBF) technology, employing copper alloys and nickel-based superalloys selected to withstand the extreme thermal and mechanical loads encountered during cryogenic rocket engine operation. All parts underwent stringent material characterization, non-destructive evaluation, and component-level qualification in line with ISRO’s exacting standards prior to integration into the test article.
“We are proud that this programme showcases Wipro 3D’s capability to deliver complex, high-performance components for space applications,” said Yathiraj Kasal, Business Head and General Manager, Wipro 3D. “Our deep expertise in metal additive manufacturing, built over more than a decade of close collaboration with ISRO, enabled us to realize fit-for-function hardware that performs reliably under extreme pressure and temperature conditions.”
Wipro 3D’s contribution to this programme highlights the growing role of additive manufacturing in accelerating propulsion development, reducing design-to-test cycles & cycle times, and enabling advanced geometries that are difficult to realize through conventional manufacturing routes. It also reinforces Wipro 3D’s position as a trusted partner in India’s strategic space ecosystem, supporting indigenous capability development through advanced manufacturing solutions.
