“Indian rail is entering a decisive decade, and the companies that lead it will be those that offer complete solutions rather than individual products. That is the direction in which JWL has been building. From wagons and components to castings, wheelsets and allied systems, we are bringing more of the mobility value chain under one umbrella than ever before, and passenger rolling stock is the natural next layer. Together with PESA, we will explore how their experience, combined with our manufacturing depth and understanding of Indian Railways, can deliver world-class, indigenously built passenger trains for India and beyond, firmly in line with the Government of India’s Make in India vision.” Vivek Lohia, Managing Director, Jupiter Wagons Limited
“India is one of the most attractive rail markets in the world. We’ve been eyeing it for years, and now we’re gaining a partner with whom we can jointly implement projects and deliver vehicles to Indian carriers. This could be one of our most important markets outside of Europe, and our collaboration with Jupiter Wagons is an important step in PESA’s international expansion.” Krzysztof Zdziarski, CEO of PESA Bydgoszcz
Jupiter Wagons Limited (JWL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Pojazdy Szynowe PESA Bydgoszcz S.A. (PESA), Poland’s largest manufacturer of trainsets and metros. At the heart of the MoU is a shared intent to explore cooperation in passenger rolling stock for India, as the country’s rail network enters an era defined by metro, semi high-speed and high-speed travel. The move marks the next step in JWL’s evolution from a wagon manufacturer into a future-ready, integrated mobility solutions company that aims to bring freight and passenger rolling stock, along with critical components, together under one umbrella.
Passenger rail in India is in the midst of a transformation. Semi high-speed trainsets are reshaping intercity travel, the country’s first high-speed rail corridor is taking shape, and metro networks continue to expand across Indian cities, creating sustained demand for modern, efficient and comfortable passenger rolling stock. For JWL, building capability in this segment today is central to being ready for the network India will need tomorrow.
Signed during the Polish-Indian Economic Forum in New Delhi, the MoU provides a framework under which JWL and PESA will explore cooperation in the development, manufacturing and deployment of passenger rail vehicles for regional, intercity and urban transport applications in India and other markets.
The MoU brings together complementary strengths. PESA, whose roots in Bydgoszcz date back to 1851, designs, manufactures and maintains passenger rolling stock including metros and trams across Europe. JWL brings manufacturing scale, a long track record of supplying to Indian Railways, private players and integrated capabilities across rolling stock, components, castings and wheelsets.
Commenting on the MoU, Vivek Lohia, Managing Director, Jupiter Wagons Limited, said: “Indian rail is entering a decisive decade, and the companies that lead it will be those that offer complete solutions rather than individual products.
