“The commencement of manufacturing marks an important transition for Vimag from technology development and validation into industrialization and serial production. Jhajjar is the first step in a broader manufacturing build-out. We are currently planning around ₹50 crore of investment, to be deployed in phases as customer programmes, traction and product requirements develop. The scale and timing of investment will evolve with demand as we build capacity and deepen our manufacturing base. The first production batch has already been exported from Jhajjar, demonstrating that the facility has moved into commercial manufacturing.” Manish Seth, Co-founder and CEO, Vimag Labs
Vimag Labs has announced that its first manufacturing facility at Met City, Jhajjar, Haryana, has commenced operations. The facility manufactures and assembles motor and control systems and related propulsion systems, including Vimag’s proprietary magnet-free motor technology, supported by testing infrastructure and advanced production systems. The company has already completed and exported its first production batch from the Jhajjar facility. The site is the starting point of a phased manufacturing build-out in India. Vimag currently plans around ₹50 crore of investment across this build-out, with capital to be deployed progressively as customer programmes, product volumes and capacity requirements develop. The overall scale of investment will continue to evolve with market traction and expansion opportunities.
Jhajjar is Vimag’s first dedicated manufacturing facility and the starting point of a broader manufacturing expansion to develop and industrialize advanced propulsion technologies in India for customers globally. Vimag is evaluating additional capacity and locations while building a network of manufacturing, supply-chain and industrialization partners across India. The objective is to create a flexible India-based production base that can scale with customer traction and support both domestic and global programmes.
Currently, the Jhajjar facility covers 10,000 sq. ft., with the ability to expand to approximately 20,000 sq. ft. The initial phase is focused on industrialization, process validation and serial production of mid-power motor and control systems. The manufacturing setup includes clean-room areas, digitally connected production systems, Industry 4.0 and IoT-enabled monitoring, traceability and a highly automated production line. The objective is to combine advanced motor and control technology with repeatable, scalable and quality-controlled manufacturing rather than operate as a conventional assembly facility.
Manish Seth, Co-founder and CEO, Vimag Labs, said: “The commencement of manufacturing marks an important transition for Vimag from technology development and validation into industrialization and serial production. Jhajjar is the first step in a broader manufacturing build-out. The first production batch has already been exported from Jhajjar, demonstrating that the facility has moved into commercial manufacturing.”
He added, “Our initial focus is on scaling mid-power motor and control systems for commercial programmes. As customer programmes mature, we plan to extend manufacturing into high-power systems of 570 kW and above and deepen partnerships across India for manufacturing, supply chain, tooling and industrialization. Our long-term goal is to build a globally competitive production base in India for domestic and international customers.”
Vimag is building its manufacturing system to scale toward capacity of up to 10,000 motor and control systems per month as programme volumes increase. The initial focus is on mid-power applications across electric mobility and other electrified systems. Higher-power motor and control systems of 570 kW and above are planned as customer programmes and product requirements mature, requiring additional manufacturing, testing and industrialization infrastructure. Capacity will be added across locations in line with customer demand and product mix. Vimag is already working with multiple customers and industry partners across different vehicle and application segments, and the manufacturing build-out is intended to support both current programmes and future production requirements.
As the manufacturing build-out scales, Vimag expects to create approximately 100 to 150 direct and indirect employment opportunities across manufacturing, quality, testing, engineering, supply chain and operations, with local recruitment forming an important part of the company’s workforce expansion.
Funding and Partnerships
Vimag Labs recently raised US$ 5 million in its Series A round led by Accel, with participation from Chakra Growth Fund and Thinkuvate. The company has also signed a manufacturing MoU with Jendamark Pvt. Ltd. to support VMSM production scale-up. Vimag is also building an India-wide ecosystem of manufacturing, component, tooling and industrialization partners to support production for domestic and global customer programmes. Additionally, the company has secured an exclusive U.S. technology licensing, manufacturing and commercialization agreement for a production-ready, bidirectional high-voltage inverter platform capable of operating at up to 1,000 volts.
